Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef (preferably lean)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch ginger, grated

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 red bell pepper, finely diced

1 cup water chestnuts, drained and chopped

3 green onions, sliced (both white and green parts)

¼ cup soy sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

1 head of butter or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Crushed peanuts, for garnish (optional)

Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients: Start by mincing the garlic, grating the ginger, and chopping the onion and red bell pepper. Drain and chop the water chestnuts. Slice the green onions and set aside both the white and green parts.

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Aromatics: Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped onion to the skillet. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Add Vegetables: Stir in the red bell pepper and chopped water chestnuts. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, mixing well.

Season the Mixture: Pour in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and sriracha. Stir everything together and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Mix in Green Onions: Add the white parts of the green onions and stir them into the mixture. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Wraps: To serve, take a lettuce leaf and spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture into the center. Top with green parts of green onions, fresh cilantro, and crushed peanuts if desired.

Garnish and Enjoy: Serve with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of flavor. Enjoy your delicious Asian-style ground beef lettuce wraps!
