Bang Bang Chicken, often heralded as a staple in modern Asian cuisine, has roots that trace back to the culinary traditions of China. The name "Bang Bang" is believed to derive from the method of preparation where the chicken is pounded or "bang" to tenderize it before cooking. This technique not only enhances the texture but also allows for deeper flavor absorption during marination.

Ingredients

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup cooked jasmine rice

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup cucumber, diced

1 avocado, sliced

1/4 cup green onion, sliced

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

1/2 cup Bang Bang sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, place the chicken thighs and pour in the buttermilk, ensuring they are fully submerged. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight in the refrigerator for extra tenderness.

Prepare the Coating: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In another dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.

Bread the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, followed by the panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the chicken to adhere well.

Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken thighs and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Assemble the Bowls: In serving bowls, place a generous scoop of jasmine rice as the base. Top with sliced chicken, shredded carrots, diced cucumber, and avocado slices.

Drizzle Bang Bang Sauce: Generously drizzle the Bang Bang sauce over the assembled bowls.

Garnish and Serve: Finish with sliced green onions and chopped cilantro for extra freshness and flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful Bang Bang Chicken Bowls!
