Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Mix well until combined.

Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar to the banana mixture. Stir until the sugars are fully incorporated.

Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix!

Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly using a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the banana bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your delicious chocolate chip banana bars!
