Ingredients

1 loaf of Hawaiian sweet rolls (12 rolls)

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

Pinch of salt

2 tbsp butter (for cooking)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Fresh fruit (such as sliced bananas and berries, for topping)

Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half, keeping them connected at the back. This will create a pocket to hold the egg mixture.

Whisk the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Soak the Rolls: Dip each roll, cut side down, into the egg mixture for about 10-15 seconds, allowing them to soak up the custard. Be careful not to make them too soggy.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or griddle, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until it’s hot and bubbly.

Cook the Rolls: Place the soaked rolls cut side down in the skillet, working in batches if necessary. Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown as well.

Serve: Remove from the skillet and serve immediately with maple syrup, fresh fruit, and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.
