Ingredients

2 cups apple cider

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground nutmeg

½ tsp salt

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

½ cup unsweetened applesauce

½ cup buttermilk

¼ cup melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup cinnamon sugar (for coating)

Instructions

Reduce the Apple Cider: In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, bring the apple cider to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until it reduces to about ¾ cup. Let cool slightly.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick spray.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the granulated sugar, eggs, applesauce, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and the reduced apple cider until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Fill the Pan: Use a piping bag or a spoon to fill each cavity of the donut pan about ¾ full with the batter.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Allow the donuts to cool for about 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer them to a wire rack. While they are still warm, coat the tops in cinnamon sugar by dipping or sprinkling until fully covered.

Serve & Enjoy: Let the donuts cool slightly before serving, and enjoy the irresistible flavors of fall!
