Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

1/2 cup finely chopped fresh jalapeños (seeds removed for less heat)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup diced red onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

Burger buns (4)

Lettuce, tomato slices, and avocado (for toppings)

Your favorite hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

Make the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, chopped jalapeños, breadcrumbs, red onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Press a slight indentation in the middle of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle the Monterey Jack cheese evenly over the top of each formed patty, then fold the edges over the cheese and reshape the patty to seal it inside.

Cook the Patties: Heat the olive oil in a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until they are fully cooked through and have reached an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).

Toast the Buns: If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Place each turkey patty on a toasted bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, avocado, and drizzle with hot sauce if desired.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the burgers hot with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
