Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into quarters

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup diced fresh pineapple (optional)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Maple syrup for serving

Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Assemble the Rolls: Place the quartered Sweet Hawaiian rolls into the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the diced pineapple and shredded coconut evenly over the rolls.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined and smooth.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the rolls, making sure all pieces are coated. Gently press down on the rolls to ensure they absorb the liquid. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes for the rolls to soak in the mixture.

Bake the Dish: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar.
