Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and whisk in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until combined.

        - Stir in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

          Make the Cookie Layer:

            - In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

              - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.

                Assemble the Browkies:

                  - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie mixture in the pan. Use a knife or spatula to gently swirl the two layers together, creating a marbled effect.

                    Bake:

                      - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                        Cool and Serve:

                          - Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then use the overhanging parchment paper to lift them out. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
